GREG HUNT IS TRYING TO KILL YOU

Greg HUNT IS TRYING TO KILL YOU

UPDATE: DUE TO PUBLIC BACKLASH AND MINISTERIAL REVOLT: THE BAN HAS BEEN DEFERRED UNTIL JAN 1, 2021

On Friday 19 June 2020, the Greg Hunt & the TGA announced a crackdown on the importation of vaping products for personal use. From July 1st, the Australian Border Force will seize any nicotine entering Australia.

If an individual orders nicotine vape liquid or nicotine-containing e-cigarettes from abroad, they will face fines up to $220,000 – regardless of whether they have a valid prescription.

A timeline of Greg Hunt MP‘s cruel crusade against #vaping26.05.17 – House of Reps Health Committee Inquiry into E-cigarette commences.
16.10.17 – Hunt tells Hack on triple j that vaping is “not going to be happening under my watch”, undermining the inquiry.

28.03.18 House of Reps Health Committee Inquiry into E-cigarettes completed and tabled in the House. A majority on the committee recommend the ban on vaping continue. The Chair is in the minority and presents a dissenting report in support of vaping.

18.09.18 Hunt agrees to refer vaping to the ANU for further independent scientific review following a robust Partyroom discussion in support of legal vaping.

02.05.19 Despite referring the issue to the ANU, costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, Hunt recommits to the vaping ban at the 2019 Election Health debate at the National Press Club.

Hunt states that vaping is: “not something that on my watch I’m willing to countenance. It is far more a case of being a ramp on, rather than a pathway off smoking. So no, that’s not what I’m proposing, on my time, on my watch, so long as I’m in this role.”

31.08.19 In response to a question by Cory Bernardi and Senator Michaelia Cash (representing Minister Hunt in the Senate) advises that the ANU Review will not be completed until December 2020, will cost taxpayers $750,000.00 and has no specific terms of reference.

26.09.19 Hunt misleads the public on ABC Melbourne about vaping related deaths in the United States and about the ‘on-ramp’ argument to maintain his myopic opposition to vaping.

December 2019 Hunt writes to Jason Wood MP requesting that the
Australian Border Force ‘crack down’ on nicotine imports.

27.02.20 Senator Stirling Griff‘s motion passes the Senate calling on Government to ban nicotine imports. Australian Labor Party and The Greens support the motion. Stirling Griff’s office tells angry vapers calling his office that he never drafted the motion, he simply ‘presented’ it.

In the midst of the #COVID19 response, Hunt briefs a story to
Dana McCauley at The Sydney Morning Herald that he has ordered the #TGA to work with the Australian Border Force to ‘crack down’ on nicotine imports. Such a crackdown both pre-empts the ANU Study, and undermines the Coalition Partyroom.

The time for pro-vaping MPs in the Federal Government to stand up to Hunt’s bullying is now. He has undermined your party room decisions. He has wasted taxpayer money, and he has consigned 300,000 #vapers back to #smoking

Act now.
